Our Lady of Mt. Shasta

The Mt. Shasta Ski Park welcomes a new member: “Our Lady of Mt. Shasta,” a stunning, larger-than-life-sized bronze sculpture of Mother Mary positioned at the top of Douglas Butte.

She symbolizes a deep connection to the area’s beauty and tranquility, encouraging all to embrace faith, kindness, love, and peace on earth.

“BACK STORY”

In 2017, the Merlo family purchased the Ski Park. Owner and CEO Ray Merlo had an initial five-year vision for the park: build the sought-after lift for Gray Butte and place a larger-than-life-size sculpture of “Mother Mary” at the top of Douglas Butte. Regrettably, in 2019, Ray was diagnosed with terminal cancer and passed away shortly thereafter in 2020. Ray left his vision for the Park with his wife Robin.

Robin simultaneously took on the challenges for both the Gray Butte lift project, and the “Mother Mary” sculpture project.  The Gray Butte lift was completed in the fall of 2022, followed up by the completion of the “Mother Mary” project in the fall of 2024.
